Helping out during the Holidays

YWCA’s Adelaide House is in the process of renovating their entire residence (33 beds). These rooms are for transitional housing - a safe place for women to live while they are getting back on their feet. This will be their home for up to 2 years while they receive counseling and are taught job skills, etc.
Adelaide House, which is located in Oshawa, is the only home of its kind in Durham Region and services clients from the Durham/Scarborough border, Port Perry and as far east as Port Hope. It provides a safe, affordable place for women getting their lives back on track after leaving abusive situations.
The YWCA has initiated an "Adopt a Room" program. As a member of POWE (Power of Women Exchange), I will be helping decorate two rooms in this amazing, old home. As well, my company, Organizing Solutions, will be furbishing one room of our own. I have enlisted the help of my husband, kids and mom to make this room special. I hope that it will be a room for many women to enjoy over the years while they gain back their feeling of worth and self respect. I’m proud to be part of this worthy cause - we can make a difference - one room at a time, one life at a time.
We are asking for help with furnishing and decorating this room. It is a small space, so we are looking for compact, simple furniture and accessories. I am planning to have the room decorated in pale purples, pinks and blues with floral pictures and throw pillows on a daybed (I have the bed). The floors are original hardwood, but we would like a soft rug on the floor.
For Organizing Solutions’ room specifically we are looking for:
A white dresser (or suitable for painting)
Small white or glass desk or table
White night stand (or suitable for painting)
4x6 rug - shaggy/soft - pale pink, purple or white
Throw pillows and a body pillow for the back of the daybed
Picture frames - any size
Throw blankets (pale mauve, pink, blue, white)
Lighting - dresser lamp, desk lamp, night stand light or wall mounted in either white or chrome.
Adelaide House has also asked specifically for donations of towels, twin bedding, robes, slippers, blow dryers, hangers, writing materials, bookshelves, nightstands, lamps, dressers, thermal mugs, inspirational pictures for the halls, books, pillows and toiletries (shampoo, soap, conditioner, deodorant and feminine hygiene products).
If you do not have any of the above to donate, but would like to make a cash donation, it would also be appreciated. Any donations that we do not use in our room will be donated to the other rooms being furnished in the home. We are planning to paint after Christmas, and decorate, etc. the week after New Years. If you are able to donate, we'd appreciate it sooner rather than later! The residents move in January 15th.

Thank you for helping with such a wonderful cause. Check back to my website at

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays!
